Fashion Designers Series : 1. COCO CHANEL.

So here I am to talk about fashion.
For a fashion student it is very important to know about designers and their work.
There is a series going to come in which I am going to tell you about each designer and their style.
I am starting this series with my favorite , my Inspiration ‘COCO CHANEL’.    

GABRIELLE BONHEUR COCO CHANEL:-

She was a French fashion designer and a business woman.

-She was born into poverty in the French countryside. Her mother died, and her father abandoned her to an orphanage.

-The women behind the fashion icon, and depicts a wounded woman, bruised by her neglected childhood and her tragic love stories.

-She never embraced the conventional married life.

-She did have a number of lovers, many of whom helped to advance her social standing and, therefore, her career.-As a teen, the young Chanel became a cabaret singer and it was there that she met an extremely wealthy man named Etienne Balsan .

 -Chanel soon became Balsan’s mistress and she lived with him for three years.

Balsan gave her the name COCO.

-The real love of Chanel’s life, however, was a polo-playing shipping tycoon named Arthur “Boy” Capel.

He not only financed, but also inspired her earliest ventures into the fashion industry.

 -He died in car accident. she was broken by the loss of her lover.

-All Chanel had to go on was her drive, ambition, and determination to use whatever she had to make her way in the world.

-She started with designing her own clothes and then hats.-She liberated women from uncomfortable corsets with her sleek and straightforward clothes.

-Casual chic as the feminine standard of style, replacing the ” corseted silhouette” that was dominant beforehand.

-She couldn’t draw and preferred not to sew.-Instead, she would describe her artistic vision to someone who would make a rough draft for her. 

-Chanel loved to socialize with figures just as infuential as she was.-She knows how to drink Champagne.” I only drink Champagne on two occasions when Iam in love and when Iam not”.


What she loves the most is to work.She is known for such now classic innovations as the Woman’s suit, the quilted purse, costume jewelry, and the “little black dress”.

She also introduced the phenomenally successful perfume Chanel No.5.

-In 1926, Vogue published a drawing of a simple black dress. It has narrow sleeves and was accessorised with a string of pearls.

-Chanel No.5 was the world’s first abstract fragrance, which incorporated more than 80 ingredients in a complex, multi-layered formulation process that uses aldehydes to heighten the scents and give an airy nature to the floral notes .

Chanel 5 was introduced to the world on 5th may 1921.

-Chanel’s tweed suits , inspired by sports wear.

-Tweed fabric used in crafting Chanel’s suits was initially not considered as a glamorous textile. 

-When she discovered the true diversity of the fabric. Chanel’s passion for feminizing tweed by implementing new colors, textures then the fabric took fashion world by storm.

-The slim skirt and collarless jacket dubbed ” Chanel’s uniform” became widely known a magazine image of actress Ina Claire dressed in a Chanel suit printed in 1924.

-Chanel designed her first quilted bag in 1929, it was only available for upper class women, it was hand carried and complicated.

CHANEL came from nowhere, she had a tough life, raised in orphanage, love of her life died nothing stopped her from becoming what she is now.

This women is an inspiration to everyone who have dreams.Even after her death, her fashion house is still No1.

-Chanel died on January 10th, 1971, at her apartment, at the age of 87.

-Designer Karl Lagerfeld took the company to continue the legacy. He worked more than 30 years as artistic director of Chanel.

– He died on 19th February, 2019, at the age of 85.

– Virginie Viard is serving Chanel as creative director.
